Nutrition Continued – Be the Change you Want to See (Ghandi)

Thanks for visiting my blog. Last week I started on Living Natural and gave five points to a healthier lifestyle.  Today I want to expand on nutrition. It is unfortunate as Americans that we have such abundance of food in this country, yet most of the food choices are actually detrimental to our health. Too many processed foods, refined sugars, GMO’s, and chemicals that we cannot pronounce are lurking everywhere. We can get outraged that the FDA does not protect us and that Monsanto basically runs most of our commercial crops.  But what I would recommend is “Be the change you want to see”, of course the great quote from Ghandi. Refuse to participate in the commercial crap that they are selling. Now this may sound like I am a bit of an extremist or I dislike capitalism. This is not the case. What I do support is local businesses and farmers who will provide organic fruits and vegetables and humanly raised meats and poultry. It is basic common sense, eat more unprocessed raw foods and organics as much as you can. I try to stick to the 80/20 rule (80% organic, 20% non-organic). And if you are following the blood-type diet and are avoiding processed foods you are on the right track. However if you are a person who likes to eat out a lot, this is a challenge depending on where you live.  Check out all the new restaurants in your area,  I am sure there will be more organic or locally sourced restaurants to open. This is a great trend sweeping the Nation, let’s keep it going by supporting them.
I just stopped in the Chopshop in Old Town Scottsdale this am to grab a menu. I can’t wait until Friday for one of their Pressed Juices. Check them out at www.chopshopco.com.
Be creative with your food choices and try new recipes.. Yes I mean actually cooking and preparing foods at home. This is the best way to obtain a healthy diet. Cooking is easy and with the internet access to almost any recipe, you don’t need a cookbook, just google it and something will appear I promise!!

Bon Appetite!!

Being Natural and What it Means…

Hello everyone and welcome to my new blog series on Natural Health. I will be updating my blog twice per week with articles pertaining to living natural.  I know everyone has their own theories on what is best but I want to share my experiences with you and cold hard facts if you are serious about maintaining optimum health throughout your life. I will start with 5  guidelines for making changes and not wasting your time.

1. Eat Well (Nutrition) – it is key to healthy living. There is way too much information out there on this topic. Myself I find it amusing how many different diets  pop up on a yearly basis. I believe in the blood type diet for many reasons. It is well researched and it can reduce your allergies and inflammation very quickly. And if you are eating foods that agree with you and you absorb their nutrients, you eat less of them, hence weight control.  Research this online.

2. Being Active – notice I did not say exercise… Let’s just remember that our bodies are made to move. If you have a desk job, it is even more important that you do something active each day for at least 30 minutes.. Walking, Hiking, biking, Yoga, and Swimming are my favorite since they are low impact and relatively easy to access.

3. Reducing the Stress in your life – If it is a job that is killing you, find a new one. If you are in a bad relationship, get out or make changes. If your family stresses you, talk to them and create an open line of communication. What ever stresses you must be dealt with accordingly. Of course as a Body Stress Release Practitioner I can help you release some of your stresses that may be locked into your body causing issues, but you need to make some changes to keep the stresses at a minimum.

4. Be Aware – Yoga teaches great postural awareness and awareness of being in the now! You can practice this awareness every day, every minute. Postural awareness is great to practice and avoid re-stressing the body.

5. Be Positive – Of course you hear this over and over again. But it is true, if you think positive thoughts, you feel better. Good things will come your way, you will attract the like. This has been proven, so why don’t we practice it more? It is so easy and FREE!! Remember you can be your own worst enemy or best friend. I prefer being my best friend. If  you are having a bad day, I know you can find one good thing, even if it is the excellent cup of coffee you had in the morning. Smile more and enjoy life.

Think of these points and see if you resonate with any of them.

Thanks for reading.

Body Stress Release North America

Body Stress Release (BSR) is a complementary wellness modality that tests and releases the stress that is locked into the body. The results are incredible from reduced back pain to improved digestion. Most people have stress that is locked into the body, mostly the muscles surrounding the spine. This hinders the nervous system from communicating optimally. Once this stress is released gently, the communication is restored via the nervous system and self-healing is enhanced. Clients experience more permanent results with BSR but are encouraged to continue with a maintenance program every 4 to 6 weeks. The program initially begins with 3 sessions to start the process of releasing the layers of stress within the muscles. If you suffer from any back pain, neck pain, headaches, digestive issues, or any other ailments, stress could be the underlying cause. Release the stress and the body’s natural healing will be enhanced for optimum health. Check out www.bodystressrelease.us for a practitioner near you.

Creating Balance in Your Life

We are all familiar with the word “balance”. It is a rather simple term, yet sometimes very difficult to achieve in life. The more we are “in balance”, the happier and healthier we feel. When we get out of balance by working too much, eating too much, or not exercising enough, the outcome is usually illness or fatigue. The unfortunate thing is that when some of us realize we need to change, we are over achievers and become unbalanced on the other end of the spectrum (too much exercise, restricted diet) that can lead to other stressors to the body.

Stress overload to the body will normally manifest as fatigue, distorted posture, low back pain, and stiffness in the neck to mention a few possible side effects. If you experience any of the above problems, you know it is time to make some changes in your life to obtain more balance. Below are five simple steps that can assist in finding balance in this ever-changing world.

Step 1 – Evaluate your job/career. Are you happy with your job? If not, take steps to rectify the situation. One example is to set goals for the year, especially if you know you want to make a career change. If the situation is stressful and you want out, set a time line so you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all spend too much time working and if you are not happy with your work, it spills over to the rest of your life and creates mental and emotional stress. If you own your own business, focus on taking care of your customers/clients and offer the best service or goods. If you have good intentions, success will follow.

Step 2 – Improve quality time with family and friends. If there are issues here, take steps to resolve with good communication and good intentions for everyone involved.

Step 3 – Evaluate your exercise and nutrition program. Don’t make this the focal point of your life, but if you are inactive and eat poorly, you will not feel healthy. It is easy to make simple changes to start. Begin a walking program (or walk you dog more). Eat more fruits and vegetables and more natural foods. We all know good nutrition, the key is to enjoy your foods and eat healthy at least 80% of the time. And if you slip, don’t be too hard on yourself, just enjoy those few extra calories.

Step 4 – Simplify your life by spending less money on luxuries. If you are experiencing some financial difficulties, scale back, less is more in this case. The less you own, the less you have to stress about and fewer bills to pay. The key here is don’t buy things that you really don’t need or can afford.

Step 5 – Seek help through alternative wellness modalities. If you feel like your stress levels have negatively impacted your health and you are experiencing headaches, backaches, or postural distortions, you may have stress locked into the physical structures of the body. As a Body Stress Release Practitioner, I test the body for stress that is “locked-in” and release it with a gentle but precise stimulation. Once this occurs, self-healing takes place and balance can be restored.

BODY STRESS RELEASE assists the body in its innate ability to maintain and heal itself. It is a gentle procedure, where areas of body stress are located, using the body as a biofeedback monitor. Light, precise stimulation encourages the body to release stored tensions, which usually manifest as backache, headaches, postural distortions or fatigue. Releasing is rapid, but if stress has been stored for a long time, more releases may be required over a period of time.
