Positive Thoughts for Positive Outcomes

By now I am sure almost everyone has heard of “The Secret”, what you think will become your reality. You may also know some people in your life who tend to be a bit negative. Usually these people fall on hardship one too many times. Where as your more positive friends and family seem to live much happier. It does work!!
One of my favourite quotes or sayings is “where the mind goes, energy flows”. I love this quote, it is so true. If you believe you are going to fail at something, you are most likely going to fail. However, thinking the opposite of succeeding and positive thoughts, will win.
This theory or practice works with everything, including your health. If you think you are going to gain weight because of a big meal, you most likely will gain weight. If you are not enjoying your exercise routine, you most likely won’t see the results you want.
So make sure you are giving only positive energy and thoughts to your health. Enjoy your food, make healthy choices and seek out a wellness program that you actually enjoy. Hiking, walking, Yoga, all modalities that are enjoyable.
Stay Positive!!

What’s Your Definition of Yoga?

If you have not rented or seen the documentary “Enlighten Up” by Kate Churchill yet, you must. I really enjoyed this entertaining movie that did not really answer any questions regarding Yoga and it’s meaning, but kept it open to your own interpretation.
Is Yoga more spiritual or physical? Of course in Western Society, we practice more of the physical yoga, but does that mean we are not spiritual during our practice and beyond? Of course Eastern practice involves more of the meditation and God side of Yoga. This is all good too. My personal beliefs is that you cannot separate the spiritual from the physical, they are in harmony and work together.
I feel when you practice physically with your asanas, you are in the present not thinking about anything else. Your mind is clear and you are at peace in the now. So how can you say this physical practice is not spiritual?
I have been practicing and teaching Athletic Yoga for nine years. Yoga has created a stronger mind, body and soul for me. My life is very much improved in so many ways with my Yoga practice. I recommend everyone to experience Yoga and keep an open mind. Try many styles and instructors, find one that you connect with.
I am currently co-owner and instructor at Metta Yoga in the Arcadia area. Check out our new website at www.newmettayoga.com.

Body Stress Release North America

Body Stress Release (BSR) is a complementary wellness modality that tests and releases the stress that is locked into the body. The results are incredible from reduced back pain to improved digestion. Most people have stress that is locked into the body, mostly the muscles surrounding the spine. This hinders the nervous system from communicating optimally. Once this stress is released gently, the communication is restored via the nervous system and self-healing is enhanced. Clients experience more permanent results with BSR but are encouraged to continue with a maintenance program every 4 to 6 weeks. The program initially begins with 3 sessions to start the process of releasing the layers of stress within the muscles. If you suffer from any back pain, neck pain, headaches, digestive issues, or any other ailments, stress could be the underlying cause. Release the stress and the body’s natural healing will be enhanced for optimum health. Check out www.bodystressrelease.us for a practitioner near you.

Creating Balance in Your Life

We are all familiar with the word “balance”. It is a rather simple term, yet sometimes very difficult to achieve in life. The more we are “in balance”, the happier and healthier we feel. When we get out of balance by working too much, eating too much, or not exercising enough, the outcome is usually illness or fatigue. The unfortunate thing is that when some of us realize we need to change, we are over achievers and become unbalanced on the other end of the spectrum (too much exercise, restricted diet) that can lead to other stressors to the body.

Stress overload to the body will normally manifest as fatigue, distorted posture, low back pain, and stiffness in the neck to mention a few possible side effects. If you experience any of the above problems, you know it is time to make some changes in your life to obtain more balance. Below are five simple steps that can assist in finding balance in this ever-changing world.

Step 1 – Evaluate your job/career. Are you happy with your job? If not, take steps to rectify the situation. One example is to set goals for the year, especially if you know you want to make a career change. If the situation is stressful and you want out, set a time line so you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We all spend too much time working and if you are not happy with your work, it spills over to the rest of your life and creates mental and emotional stress. If you own your own business, focus on taking care of your customers/clients and offer the best service or goods. If you have good intentions, success will follow.

Step 2 – Improve quality time with family and friends. If there are issues here, take steps to resolve with good communication and good intentions for everyone involved.

Step 3 – Evaluate your exercise and nutrition program. Don’t make this the focal point of your life, but if you are inactive and eat poorly, you will not feel healthy. It is easy to make simple changes to start. Begin a walking program (or walk you dog more). Eat more fruits and vegetables and more natural foods. We all know good nutrition, the key is to enjoy your foods and eat healthy at least 80% of the time. And if you slip, don’t be too hard on yourself, just enjoy those few extra calories.

Step 4 – Simplify your life by spending less money on luxuries. If you are experiencing some financial difficulties, scale back, less is more in this case. The less you own, the less you have to stress about and fewer bills to pay. The key here is don’t buy things that you really don’t need or can afford.

Step 5 – Seek help through alternative wellness modalities. If you feel like your stress levels have negatively impacted your health and you are experiencing headaches, backaches, or postural distortions, you may have stress locked into the physical structures of the body. As a Body Stress Release Practitioner, I test the body for stress that is “locked-in” and release it with a gentle but precise stimulation. Once this occurs, self-healing takes place and balance can be restored.

Unlocking Tension, Restoring Self-Healing

Sherri Hered, M.B.A., M. Ed.
Body Stress Release Practitioner

BODY STRESS RELEASE assists the body in its innate ability to maintain and heal itself. It is a gentle procedure, where areas of body stress are located, using the body as a biofeedback monitor. Light, precise stimulation encourages the body to release stored tensions, which usually manifest as backache, headaches, postural distortions or fatigue. Releasing is rapid, but if stress has been stored for a long time, more releases may be required over a period of time.
